Functional Neurological Disorders
Functional Neurological Disorder (FNSD) is a condition in which a patient experiences neurologic symptoms in their body, even though their body is healthy. These symptoms can resemble seizures, numbness or tingling, or an inability to walk or see. In FNSD, symptoms can disrupt all areas of a child’s life – school, sleep, and routines.
FNSD is NOT “in your head.” It happens when the brain and the body do not communicate smoothly with each other and send inaccurate messages. FNSD is a treatable condition – through work and time, most children can learn to get their symptoms under control.
