Learning About Trauma
By the end of this module, you will be able to:
- Define a trauma, traumatic grief, and posttraumatic stress disorder
- Understand what social influencers of health are, and how these impact a person’s well-being
- Know the difference between common and uncommon responses to traumatic experiences
Understanding Trauma Treatment
By the end of this module, you will be able to:
- Recognize a type of trauma therapy called “Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy” (TF-CBT)
- Identify the parts of TF-CBT and understand how each part contributes to the therapy process
Learning about Intense Emotions and Avoidance
By the end of this module, you will be able to:
- Identify internal and external body clues to stress and trauma
- Understand the body’s alarm system and how this is impacted by trauma
- Recognize helpful and harmful coping skills
- Understand how cycles of avoidance can develop after trauma exposures
- Identify if a child or teen is triggered by a trauma reminder
Dealing with Intense Emotions
By the end of this module, you will be able to:
- Understand how to deal with intense emotions using distress tolerance and coping skills
- Identify additional skills such as effective problem-solving and acceptance
- Understand when to use the discussed skills to promote healthy coping
